I am super-honoured to be involved with an event for the incredible Girls Rock Aotearoa on Saturday, 17 May at the Hollywood in Avondale, Auckland – a night of fun ‘n’ fundraising at their official charity launch party! This is my only Auckland event for Violet and the Velvets and it’s perfect for anyone with kids interested in playing in bands. I love this organisation so much that I’m already donating a percentage of my Violet royalties to them, but at this event I’ll also be donating proceeds of books and special Violet and the Velvets band t-shirts (see photo below) to them as well.
There will be performances, a silent auction (including karaoke spots with a live house band!), and a music quiz, as well as a celebration of the fabulous new book by, me, Rachael King – Violet and the Velvets: the Case of the Missing Stuff!

Girls Rock Aotearoa has helped young women, trans, intersex, takatāpui, queer and gender diverse youth to explore music since 2018. In our programmes, students form bands, build instrument skills, participate in workshops and write their own songs.
